Honest fence comparison
Looking for a Besser Block Fence? There is a Faster, Stronger Way
A besser block fence gives you that solid, permanent masonry look, but it is one of the slowest fences to build and the mortar and render are the first things to crack. Our precast concrete walls give you the same look, up in days not weeks, with none of the cracking and none of the render to maintain.
Customer Reviews
“Looks stunning. Started punctual on the agreed date and completed it within the timeframe specified. Fence straight, plumb, banter of the street - happy I went the stacked stone!”
Mark Bradley
“Greg was amazing to deal with, nothing was too much trouble. I have a fabulous fence that I will have for many, many years. I have no hesitation in recommending Greg or his excellent business.”
Kym Hudson
“This Wall concept is amazing. I could not believe how fast our fence went up! Greg and his team did a great job negotiating our steep sloping block. The end result exceeded our expectation, we even added a secure parcel post box. We have now painted the wall which looks even better. I am confident the investment is reflected in our increased property value.”

If you have been pricing a besser block or concrete block fence, you already know the look you want: solid, private and permanent, with the substance of real masonry. What most people are not told is how that fence gets built, and what it costs you in time and upkeep. After decades building boundary walls across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, here is the honest comparison, and a system that gives you the same result in a fraction of the time.
Why people choose besser block, and what it actually involves
A besser block fence has real appeal. It is solid, it blocks noise, and it has that substantial rendered-masonry finish. The catch is in the build. Every block is laid by hand, course by course, on a continuous footing, then rendered and painted as separate trades. That makes it one of the slower fences to put up, and it is heavily weather dependent. The mortar joints and the render are also the parts most likely to craze or crack as the ground shifts over the years.
Our precast walls give you the same solid, rendered-masonry look, but each panel is cast in one piece in our Yatala factory, cured to full 50MPa strength, and craned into place. You get the appearance you were after, finished on both sides, in days rather than weeks, and with no render coat to crack or re-coat down the years.
The masonry look, without the bricklayer

Besser block vs Superior Concrete Walls
Here is how the two stack up on the things that actually matter over the life of a fence.
| Factor | Rendered besser block | Superior Concrete Walls |
|---|---|---|
| How it is built | Laid block by block on site, then rendered and painted as separate trades | Cast as solid panels in our factory, then craned into place |
| Time on site | Multiple trades over days to weeks, weather permitting | Days, up to 100 metres installed a day once we start |
| Cracking over time | Mortar joints and render can craze, crack or shift | Tongue-and-groove panels with live joints flex instead of cracking |
| Finish on both sides | Rendering both faces is extra time and cost | Profiled on both sides as standard |
| Ongoing upkeep | Render can crack or need re-coating | A wash, and an optional repaint every 10 to 15 years |
| Ground disturbance | Continuous strip footing, more excavation | Pier footings at 3.2m centres, far less digging |
| Installed cost | Premium once you add blockwork, render and paint | Comparable or less, with no separate rendering bill |
| Lifespan and backing | Long if it is well maintained | 100+ year design life, 15-year structural guarantee |

Besser block fence alternative: common questions
Can you build a besser block fence?
We do not lay besser or concrete block. We manufacture precast concrete walls that most customers choose instead. You get the same solid masonry look, finished on both sides, without the weeks of bricklaying and rendering, and with no mortar joints or render coat to crack down the track.
How does the cost compare to a besser block fence?
It is competitive, and often cheaper once you account for the rendering and painting a block wall needs as separate trades. A block fence is laid course by course and then rendered, which is slow and labour-intensive, while our panels are cast in the factory and craned in, so you save on both time and trade labour. The bigger saving is over the years, because there is no render to crack or re-coat. Every site is different, so the best comparison is a free quote.
Will a precast wall crack the way a block fence can?
A block wall relies on mortar joints and a render coat, both of which can craze, crack or shift as the ground moves over the years. Our system uses tongue-and-groove panels with live joints, so the wall flexes slightly with the ground instead of cracking, and the finish is cast into the concrete rather than applied on top.
Does it look like a real masonry or rendered block wall?
Yes. The panels are solid 50MPa concrete profiled on both sides, so you get the substantial, permanent look of a rendered block wall, and your neighbours see the same finish you do. You can paint it any colour, or choose our Stacked Stone finish, cast from a genuine 19th-century Spanish stone wall, for a natural stone look.
