The 19th-Century Spanish Moulds Behind Our Stacked Stone

By Greg·20 March 2026·3 min read

Our stacked stone fence panels are cast from authentic moulds made from 19th-century Spanish dry-stone walls. Here's the story of how these moulds ended up in Yatala.

There's a reason our stacked stone panels don't look like the mass-produced composite imitations you see in hardware stores. Ours are cast from actual 19th-century Spanish dry-stone walls.

How it started

Decades ago, Greg travelled through rural Spain and was captivated by the character of centuries-old stone boundary walls built by local farmers. Every stone was hand-laid, every face weathered uniquely, every joint irregular in the way that only real craftsmanship can produce.

He wanted to bring that character home to Australian backyards - but not as a pale imitation. So he found original 19th-century stone walls and had silicone moulds taken directly from their faces. Those moulds are what we cast from today.

Why this matters

Most 'stacked stone' fence panels on the market are made from repeating moulds with 4-6 stone patterns that tile visibly. Up close, they look like wallpaper. Ours have the genuine irregularity of hand-laid stonework because they came from actual hand-laid stonework.

The acid-staining finish adds another layer of authenticity. Each panel is individually treated with mineral acid stains that react with the concrete surface, producing variegated colour tones that mimic the patina of centuries-old stone.

The result

A stacked stone fence that looks like it's been there for 100 years, but with the structural durability of modern 50 MPa engineered concrete. It's the only product of its kind in Australia.
